Description
#E401Knights of Pythias Named Decorative Sword. Handle has some damage and appears to be missing a decorative piece at the top. Scabbard has some decorative pieces that are loose but still attached. Looks like entire blade on each side was etched at one time, but now from the bottom about nine inches up the etchings is gone. Still a nice blade. The name J. Pettiibone, Cincinnati O. Is clearly visible as well as the maker’s name Schuyler Hartley & Graham of New York, well known for making Civil War swords. The Knights of Pythias are a philanthropic organization founded in Washington D.C. in 1864. Their National charity is The American Cancer Society. They are still active in 20 states as well as several international groups. This sword is believed to date back to the 1800’s
